JACKALOPE JUNCTION PART OF REACH OUT PARADE OF HOMES

Reach Out Morongo Basin offers its eleventh annual parade of homes fundraiser. Six homes were chosen this year. Reporter Rebecca Havely focuses on one of the chosen homes…
This year the parade of homes stretches from Pioneer Town through Western Hills, Yucca Mesa and the West end of the Morongo Basin. One of the parade stops is in the Pipes Canyon area of Pioneertown, Jackalope Junction. The owners of the home designed it themselves, Hector Alvarez and Jenifer Byrd. They threw in some mid-century modern touches as well as nods to industrial architecture. The beautiful rusted patina on the untreated metal exterior blends into the surrounding landscape reflecting the look of the local homestead cabins.
The parade date is Sunday, February 15 from noon till 5 p.m. and ends at the Park Rock Cafe with lunch and live music. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased in Twentynine Palms at The Chamber of Commerce and the offices of both Reach Out Morongo Basin and The Desert Trail, in Yucca Valley at their Chamber of Commerce and Senior Center, and in Joshua Tree at the Z107.7.
