If you live in a wildland area you need to use all equipment responsibly to reduce the risk of accidentally sparking a fire. Managing editor Tami Roleff has the wildfire prevention tips from CalFire…
Southern California is entering peak wildfire season. Whether working to create defensible space around your home, mowing the grass or dragging a road, or just pulling your dirt bike over to the side of the road, use all equipment responsibly. If the metal blades from a lawn mower hit rocks, they can create sparks and start a fire. Spark arresters are required in wildland areas on all portable gasoline-powered equipment, such as weed-eaters, chain saws, grinders, welders, tractors, and trimmers. Do your part, the right way, to keep your community fire safe. And finally, don’t drive your vehicle onto dry grass or brush. Hot exhaust pipes and mufflers can start fires.
