INCREASED TRAFFIC CAUSES INCIDENTS IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

The Sheriff’s Department is investigating claims of assault between a trucker and a resident in Twentynine Palms early Wednesday morning. According to Sheriff reports, a big rig truck driver and another man were at a gas station in the 73900 block of 29 Palms Highway about 3:45 a.m. an argument erupted when the resident said the truck driver parked his truck in front of him, blocking his vehicle in the parking lot. The truck driver claims the man grabbed his leg and tried to pull him out of the truck, but those claims could not be confirmed. The Sheriff’s Department is forwarding the case to the District Attorney for review.

A tractor-trailer sheared off a fire hydrant in Twentynine Palms Wednesday morning. According to a Sheriff’s report, the truck was turning in front of military housing area in the 73900 block of Two Mile Road about 8 a.m. when the truck clipped the hydrant and sent water flowing out into the street. When Twentynine Palms firefighters arrived on scene at 8:05, the truck was already gone and water district employees were shutting off the water and getting ready to replace the hydrant.

Southbound Highway 62 in Riverside County was blocked for about 2 ½ hours Wednesday afternoon when a tractor-trailer overturned near Painted Hills Road. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Stephanie Hamilton, the big rig overturned about 2 p.m. and blocked both of the southbound lanes of Highway 62. Traffic was diverted into the center median to get around the truck. Two tow trucks were needed to set the truck upright before it was towed away about 4:30. According to Hamilton, there was no report of injuries to the driver. Winds were gusting about 30 miles per hour Wednesday afternoon.
