IN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTABLL, A WIN FOR YUCCA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL, A LOSS FOR TWENTYNINE PALMS HIGH SCHOOL

Yucca Valley High School football has started out at 3-0 for the first time in 13 years. The Trojans spoiled the Aztec homecoming by defeating Barstow 16-12. Barstow scored two first half touchdowns with the extra points being denied. Bradley Soares connected on field goals of 18, 27, and 33 to make a halftime score of 12-9. The Trojan defense completely shut down any Aztec offense in the second half and Logan Vallo scored on a 13-yard run to give the Trojans the lead. Joey Rutherford had 17 tackles and Karver Murphy added two sacks. Vallo also ran for 180 yards on 24 carries. The win is also the first against Barstow in team history. Next week, the Trojans look to go to 4-0 against the Indio Rajahs. The Trojans are 0-5 lifetime versus Indio and are looking forward to correcting that mark as well.

The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats fell 40-13 number to number one ranked Rim of the World after surrendering 20 third-quarter points. Coach Ernest Martinez said the ‘Cats played tougher than the score indicated, as they held the lead into the second quarter thanks to a 70-yard touchdown run by Senior Talo Wilson. In the second quarter Cats starting quarterback, Jake Culver, was taken out with a big hit on the Cats’ third offensive series. Offensive leaders for the ‘Cats were Andrew Wilson with 96 yards rushing, and 96 yards receiving on five catches. Defensively Talo Wilson led the team with 10 tackles, followed by sophomore Alonzo Tate with eight. The Wildcats hope to gain some momentum heading into league play, but will face another tough test as they host Barstow Friday night. The Frosh-Soph will take their undefeated 3-0 record to the field at 4:15 as the start the early game. The Varsity game will begin at 7:00 p.m. following the early game.
