ILLEGAL BURN NEAR GIANT ROCK SUNDAY

Yucca Mesa firefighters were called to the Giant Rock area for a second time at 6:15 p.m. Sunday to put out a possible structure fire. A neighbor led firefighters to the fire, off Bodick, near Mikiska Boulevard and Creole Mine Road, where they discovered the “structure” fire was actually an illegal burn of televisions and other household electronics, brought out into the desert for target practice, and then set on fire. Firefighters saw a group of quad riders leaving the scene as they arrived. The fire, about 10 to 15 feet in diameter, was extinguished mostly by hand tools, and then hosed down.
