Prior to its regular meeting last night, the Twentynine Palms City Council held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the newly installed monument sign and artwork on the median at National Park Drive. Reporter Kristy Lockhart has details.
Acclaimed artist Ricardo Breceda was commissioned to do the project which consists of five metal sculptures of big horn sheep. The visitor-friendly sign was designed to provide easily identifiable directions to the main road leading to Joshua Tree National Park Headquarters and Oasis Visitor Center. Park Superintendent Mark Butler says it’s a great addition to the city. “Twentynine Palms is continuing along the pathway to becoming an iconic gateway community for Joshua Tree Park. We’re proud for them and appreciative of all they have done for us.” The City of Twentynine Palms Community Services Department and the Public Arts Advisory Committee worked together to design and implement the project.
