As many of our local residents know, Interstate 10 from Beaumont to State Route 111 in Palm Springs is in the process of undergoing a massive overhaul to increase the usability, effectiveness, and overall safety of the roadway for motorists and commercial traffic alike. Friday morning, a traffic crossover was put in place on I-10 eastbound starting at 8th Street in Beaumont and ending at Main Street. Reporter Cassidy Zimarik has the traffic report…
Caltrans is continuing construction on Interstate 10 (I-10) in preparation of a crossover lane. The I-10 Tune Up will replace damaged concrete slabs, repave the interstate, upgrade the center median and guardrail system, as well as upgrade various on and off ramps through the area. To assist in completing the project without reducing lanes during the day, crews are building a temporary “crossover lane” in the center median from 8th St in Banning to Main St in Cabazon. During daytime work, Caltrans plans to have four lanes open in each direction. Nighttime work will require lane and ramp closures which could be down to one lane. It is important to know before you go and plan for potential travel delays. To stay up to date on this project, you can visit i10TuneUp.com.
With this new traffic pattern in place, the California Highway Patrol urges motorists to plan ahead, pay attention to signage, and reduce their speed through the Pass Area. The maximum speed limit through the construction zone has been reduced to 60 mph. Fines in construction zones are doubled and moving violations will be strictly enforced by the CHP.
