HWY 62 Open Studio Art Tours starts three weekends of art this Saturday (10/5)

The HWY 62 Open Studio Art Tours kicks off tomorrow. More than 130 local, hi-desert artists will be opening up their studios to neighbors, tourists, and art appreciators. This annual event brings people to the hi-desert from all over the country.

The event is put on annually by the Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council, and is an autumn staple for the local artist community. This year’s event will feature more music and performance art than ever before.

Attendees should pick up a Hwy 62 Open Studio Directory that includes a complete list of artists, maps and directions. These can be found in shops, galleries and welcome centers in the region. There is also a handy app for smartphones.

Attendees should note, however, that about 60 studio locations on the tour are NOT GPS-friendly.

Drivers should be wary of sandy roads and keep an eye on the weather. As always, bring more water than you think you need.
