The federal government requires communities to have plans for affordable housing. The City of Twentynine Palms will hold a community meeting on Wednesday October 15 to solicit public input on two projects mandated by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. In one effort, the City will work with San Bernardino County on a 5-year plan to identify community development and affordable housing needs, and sets priorities for investment of federal grant funds to address those needs. The second effort, a fair housing study, will identify barriers to equal access to housing and will propose fair and affordable housing strategies to overcome those impediments. In addition to the October 15 public meeting, there will also be an online survey—a link to which will be posted on the city website at www.29palms.org as soon as it is available. A draft of the completed plans will be posted for public comment beginning in February 2015. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m., at the Community Services Center, 74325 Joe Davis Drive, across from Luckie Park in Twentynine Palms.
