Landers residents were surprised to see fire engines in their yard when they returned home after a short trip to town yesterday. According to County Fire Captain Trent Blanchard, fire fighters from Yucca Mesa, Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree were called to a house fire in the 5200 block of Dusty Mile Road about 1:55 p.m. Thursday. The fire had started at the back of the house and spread into the kitchen and attic. Four dogs rushed out of the house when fire fighters opened the door. Fire fighters were able to save most of the home. The cause is under investigation.
