A Landers home is a total loss after an early morning fire today. Fire fighters from Yucca Mesa, Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, and CalFire were called to a single-family residence in the 55000 block of Sunnyslope at 4:38 this morning. Captain Jay Dimoff said the home was fully involved in flames when fire fighters arrived, who went into defensive mode to keep the fire from spreading. Dimoff said the home’s resident, whom he did not identify, was arrested by Sheriff’s deputies after he became belligerent with fire fighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Kids playing with fire in the desert caused a vegetation fire in Yucca Valley Monday afternoon. Shortly before 5, fire fighters were called to put out a small fire near Desert Gold Drive and Emerson Avenue, where kids had built a small fort, and then started some trash on fire next to the fort.
