The Morongo Basin Horsemen’s Association is having an open cattle sorting this weekend, open to all levels of horses and riders. There will be free entertainment for spectators, so bring a lawn chair. Spokesperson Kim Ortamond says many horses in the desert have never seen or been near cattle, so this will be lots of fun for riders and those watching. She said it is very reasonable to participate with no competition, just some good old fun. Registration begins at 5 p.m. and the sorting begins at 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. The event will be held at Parker’s Arena, 4180 Mesquite Springs Road in Twentynine Palms. For more information call Ortamond at 760-367-1120.
