HOMESTEAD VALLEY HELPS MARINES

The Homestead Valley Community Council continues the drive to raise money for gifts for a Twentynine Palms Marine unit deployed in Afghanistan. In gratitude to the people of the Homestead Valley who contributed so generously last year, the Marines sent lots of thank-you’s and a flag flown in Afghanistan in their honor. Much-needed treats and personal items are a real morale-booster for the troops. Items like beef jerky, cookies, hard candies, face wipes and lip balm are bought in bulk by the HVCC. Your contribution will help cover both purchasing and mailing. Last year 70 boxes were sent out to the VMU-3 Phantoms unmanned aerial reconnaissance unit. This year mailing will cost even more. More donations are needed or fewer boxes can be sent out. You can help again with this effort in three ways: Mail a check made out to HVCC (with “Marine Fund” in the memo box) to PO Box 3694, Landers CA 92285; or make a secure credit card contribution online at www.hvccsite.org; or donate at any event at the community centers in Yucca Mesa, Landers, Flamingo Heights or Johnson Valley.
