There will be lots to discuss at today’s meeting of the Homestead Valley Community Council. The Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan Record of Decision and renewable energy development will be discussed, as well as reactions to the workshop in Johnson Valley last week. In addition, the relocation of tortoises by the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center and the possible exclusion of off-highway vehicles from more areas will also be on the agenda. A presentation will be given on applying for a Promise Zone grant—an initiative in which the federal government partners with local communities to increase economic activity, expand educational opportunities, and reduce violent crime. Representatives from the Fire and Sheriff’s Department will also be available to answer questions. The meeting starts at 3 p.m. in Belfield Hall on Reche Road in Landers.
