Keeping the Highway 247 area scenic will be the focus when the Homestead Valley Community Council meets tomorrow. Reporter Sara Snyder has more…
The Homestead Valley Community Council Scenic 247 Committee plans a public meeting 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at the Johnson Valley Community Center. Members from the Save Our Skyline group from Lucerne Valley will provide updates about threats to the Scenic Highway status of 247. They are forming a grass roots coalition to fight the 70 wind turbines proposed for the San Bernardino Mountains, and the transmission line that would invade residential areas and the scenic corridor of Hwy 247. Activists from the Morongo Basin who successfully blocked the wind turbines on Black Lava Butte and Flat Top Mesa over Pipes Wash and Pioneertown will also be on hand. The Johnson Valley Community Center is 1-3/4 miles south of Hwy 247 on Larrea Road, at the corner of Quailbush Road. For more information, call Betty Munson at 760-364-2646.
