HOMELAND WOMAN ARRESTED IN JOSHUA TREE FOLLOWING A PURSUIT WITH CHP

A Homeland woman was arrested late Thursday night (July 15) accused of felony evading and DUI following a pursuit with CHP officers through Joshua Tree. According to a CHP press release, officer R. Swanson attempted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Silverado for a speeding violation in downtown Joshua Tree Thursday (July 15) at around 9 p.m. The driver, later identified as Teresa Spangler, 33, of Homeland, failed to yield and a pursuit began. Spangler led Officer Swanson on a pursuit through northeast Joshua Tree, driving onto the Sunfair Dry Lake in east Joshua Tree before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot into the desert. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department helicopter 40-King assisted in locating Spangler’s vehicle. Spangler was tracked through the desert on foot by officers for approximately 2 miles before she was located hiding in a ditch underneath desert foliage. Spangler was arrested for investigation of felony evading and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail.
