You never think it will happen to you, of course. And yet, every year it happens to someone whose thinking was just like yours.
We’re talking about holiday-related accidents, particularly household fires started by Christmas trees. And as usual, the San Bernardino County Fire Department has issued its annual warning with safety tips.
Among them: make sure all electrical equipment such as cords and bulbs are in good working order, check natural trees for one-inch fresh cuts at their bases, water them daily and plug no more than three light sets into a single outlet.
In addition, fire officials say, place Christmas trees well away from heating vents, fireplaces, TV sets and other sources of heat and remove them as soon as possible after the holidays.
