Although our Thanksgiving get-togethers may be smaller than in years past, thanks to COVID-19 and a supply chain shortage, most families will still cook and eat a traditional meal of roast turkey with all the fixings. Ernest Figueroa offers these safety tips from the county fire department for cooking your holiday meal…
This holiday, make sure to practice some basic safety precautions when you’re cooking that special dinner. Stay in the kitchen while preparing food. Never leave food cooking on a stove unattended, especially if you are frying, grilling, or broiling food. Don’t wear loose clothing or dangling sleeves around a stove. Keep anything that can burn, like potholders, wooden spoons, towels, bags or food packaging, away from your stove. Keep small children out of the kitchen while hot food is being prepared. If a fire starts in a pan, put a lid on it and turn off the burner. If a fire starts in the oven or microwave, turn off the heat source and keep the door closed. Then call 9-1-1.
