The hit Broadway show “Urinetown, the Musical,” a light and cerebral look at how greed and corruption on the highest levels impacts us all, is now playing at Theatre 29 in Twentynine Palms. The dark comedy, which ran on Broadway from 2001 until 2004, was nominated for ten Tony Awards and was praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be. In Urinetown, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent Company. Amid the people, a hero decides he’s had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom. “Urinetown the Musical” at Theatre 29 runs through March 28, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 p.m., with a 2:30 p.m. Sunday matinee March 22. Tickets are $12 for regular admission, $10 for seniors and military, and $8 for children under 12 and students with ID. The show is suitable for children. Tickets may be ordered online at www.theatre29.org, or by calling the Theatre 29 Box Office at 760-361-4151.
