The suspect in a hit-and-run collision that left several people injured in Twentynine Palms was tracked down by a bystander.
On Saturday evening (August 3) just before 7:30 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a vehicle collision on Twentynine Palms Highway near Ocotillo Ave. in Twentynine Palms.
A white buick was driving eastbound on the highway at speeds which witnesses described as more than 100 mh. The buick collided with a black truck. The driver of the truck suffered from injuries at the scene, and the passenger was uninjured.
Witnesses at the scene told deputies that the driver of the white Buick, identified as Deborah Jarrett, exited her vehicle, and appeared to have been intoxicated. They told deputies that Jarrett got into the passenger seat of her own car, then attempted to open the back door of the black truck. A witness said that Jarrett was pounding on the windows of the truck asking to be let inside, before she returned to her own car and drove off.
The driver of the truck was treated for injuries by San Bernardino County Fire at the scene of the collision.
A witness at the scene told 911 that they followed Jarrett, and they provided her location to dispatch. She was contacted by deputies, who took her to Hi-Desert Medical for treatment. During questioning, deputies say Jarrett confessed to being at fault in the collision.
Deborah Jarrett was arrested on suspicion of injury hit and run, and she was cited and released at Hi-Desert Medical Center.
