HIT AND RUN DRIVER RETURNS TO THE SCENE AND GETS ARRESTED

A hit-and-run driver returned to the scene of the accident Friday evening, and was arrested—for a probation violation. According to a Sheriff’s report, about 9:10 Friday night, two cars collided at the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Mariposa Avenue in Twentynine Palms. The driver of one of the vehicles, Tony Rios, 35, of Twentynine Palms, fled the scene, but returned later and admitted he had left the scene because he was scared. Tony Rios was arrested for violating the terms of his probation from an incident in 2012 in which he challenged someone to a fight, and on a warrant from Orange County. A report on the hit-and-run will be sent to the District Attorney for review. Rios was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail and is being held without bail.
