The youngsters of today are the old timers of tomorrow, and the Twentynine Palms Historical Society is encouraging youth to learn about the area’s history with a special program. The goal of the Twentynine Palms Historical Society’s Young Historian program is to encourage the youth of Twentynine Palms to become more familiar with our local history. The Old Schoolhouse Museum is a wonderful launch point for young minds. Exhibits touch on Native Americans, miners, cattlemen, early pioneer families, and the military. Accompanied by an adult, the prospective Young Historian will complete the Hunting for History at the Old Schoolhouse Museum and the Twentynine Palms Mural Tour. Plus, they’ll visit Veterans Park and the Joshua Tree National Park visitor center. They’ll walk the Oasis of Mara Nature Trail and the Frances Sabol Eco Trail and visit old mining and bus exhibits. Each Young Historian will receive a commemorative T-shirt. The program currently focuses on students in grades 3 through 6.
