HIKER DIES ON BLACK ROCK CANYON TRAIL

A 52-year-old Yucca Valley woman died Thursday while hiking in Joshua Tree National Park. Susan Schoenfeldt was hiking the West Loop Trail about 3 p.m. with her daughter when she began to complain about not feeling well and collapsed on the trail, about a mile from the campground. The daughter called 911 and administered CPR.

Firefighters, Sheriff’s deputies, Joshua Tree Search and Rescue, and Morongo Basin Ambulance were called to the Black Rock Canyon area in Yucca Valley and firefighters took over efforts to resuscitate her, but were unable to revive her. Susan Schoenfeldt was brought out of the park by JOSAR.
