An enforcement sweep of off-highway vehicles in the Morongo Basin Saturday resulted in 15 citations being issued. According to a Sheriff’s Department press release, Sheriff’s deputies, rangers from the Bureau of Land Management, and county code enforcement officers targeted areas where a large number of complaints have originated: Landers, Flamingo Heights, and Yucca Mesa. However, law enforcement made 40 proactive contacts of OHV riders, resulting in 15 citations for operating an OHV on the roadway, expired green stickers, modified exhaust and operating an OHV without a safety helmet; two citations were issued to riders for violating the San Bernardino County OHV Ordinance; two juveniles were cited for operating OHV’s without having attended an approved safety course, and one parent was cited for allowing a juvenile under 14 years of age to operate an OHV without parental supervision or required safety training.
