HIGHWAY STRIPING VEHICLE CATCHES ON FIRE IN TWENTYNINE THIS MORNING

A vehicle used to paint stripes on the highway caught on fire early this morning. The striping vehicles use burners to heat and liquefy the paint solution so it can be sprayed on the pavement. A cardboard box was too close to the burner and caught on fire about 6:30 a.m. when the vehicle was driving westbound on the highway near Timothy Avenue. A Sheriff’s deputy put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, and the vehicle was just smoking when the fire department arrived. The vehicle itself is fine, but the striping component, which is separate from the vehicle, suffered between $500 and $1000 worth of damage.
