Highway 62 was closed in both directions between Lear Avenue in Twentynine Palms and Sunfair Road in Joshua Tree for more than 15 hours following a fatal traffic collision about 8 p.m. Sunday. Early reports from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, Major Accident Investigation Team indicate one, possibly two, fatalities following the three-car collision. The closure wreaked havoc for commuters. West bound traffic was re-routed through the Twentynine Palms entrance to Joshua Tree National Park while east bound traffic was directed to the Park Boulevard entrance in Joshua Tree. The highway was reopened to traffic about 11:30 a.m. Monday.
