UPDATED: 12:00 p.m.

Highway 62 has been reopened after being closed for over 15 hours due to a three-vehicle traffic collision with at least one fatality. Previously, traffic was being diverted between Lear Avenue and Rotary way, just east of Copper Mountain College. Traffic was being rerouted through Joshua Tree National Park via Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms to Park Boulevard in Joshua Tree; park fees were waived during this time. An alternative route for high clearance, four wheel drive vehicles was from Lear Avenue in the Indian Cove area north to Winters Road then west; following the cones to Sunfair Road or Border in North Joshua Tree. Copper Mountain College is open and classes resumed at 12 p.m. The college has put the emergency texting system into use.
