With the summer’s heat, Joshua Tree National Park begins seasonal closures of some camping areas. Reporter Mike Lipsitz tells you where not to pitch your tent…
Joshua Tree National Park each year experiences a decline in visitors that coincides with rising summer temperatures. In response, the National Park Service closes a number of camping areas. The move reduces maintenance costs and allows vegetation a respite from visiting hoards. Campgrounds that close from June 6 to October 2 include Belle and Ryan campgrounds, and portions of Cottonwood, Indian Cove, and Black Rock campgrounds. Remaining open through the summer are Jumbo Rocks, Hidden Valley and White Tank campgrounds. The Park Service will monitor visitation throughout the season and consider adjustments as needed.
