HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT ENDS WITH MOTORCYCLIST KILLED

A motorcyclist was killed in a high-speed pursuit early Thursday morning. According to a CHP press release, on March 24, just after 1:30 a.m., deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department observed a blue-colored Yamaha R6 with a solo rider driving east on Highway 62, west of Lear Avenue at a high rate of speed estimated over 100 MPH. Deputies reportedly attempted to overtake the Yamaha. They reported observing reckless driving as the Yamaha made a left turn onto northbound Lear Avenue through a red traffic signal and accelerated again to speeds estimated well over 100 MPH. Deputies lost sight of the Yamaha as it traveled north on Lear Avenue. As they conducted an area check for the Yamaha, deputies observed a large dust cloud and found the Yamaha overturned on Mesa Drive east of Lear Avenue. Deputies continued to search the area for the driver of the Yamaha and located the driver in the open desert south of Mesa Drive.

The driver was unconscious and not breathing. Medics arrived and the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of kin.
