HIGH-SPEED FREEWAY PURSUIT ENDS AT GUNPOINT IN MORONGO VALLEY

A Houston, Texas, man was arrested Sunday evening at gunpoint after the CHP said he led officers on a high-speed pursuit from Banning to the Morongo Grade. A motorist called 9-1-1 at 6:53 p.m. Sunday to report that Rafael Green, 30, had passed him going more than 100 miles per hour eastbound on I-10 in Banning. Three CHP vehicles caught up to the white Audi near the Morongo Casino and attempted a traffic stop, which Green ignored. Green took the Highway 62 exit off the freeway toward Morongo Valley. As he entered the Morongo Grade toward Morongo Valley, traffic slowed, and he stopped his car in the right lane. CHP officers quickly blocked him in with a patrol car in front of and behind his Audi and removed Green from the car at gunpoint. The CHP vehicles were slightly damaged but there were no injuries. Rafael Green was arrested for investigation of felony evading and driving across a freeway median and booked into the Banning Jail with his bail set at $200,000.
