HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS; SCORES AND SCHEDULES

Twentynine Palms High School track and field teams traveled to San Gorgonio High School for the annual Sparta Relays April 6. Alizabeth Ogdahl and Noel Figueroa kicked off the competition in the 2 by 3200-meter run with personal records. The boys held off Canyon Springs to earn third place, led by the boys’ hurdlers and the young boys’ sprint corps. Diante Aiken, Wyatt Giannini, Jessey Brocar, and Marcus Chestnut earned gold medals in the shuttle hurdles. The girls were led by senior Laveena Benavente, who earned the most hardware, a bronze in the high jump and 400-meter throwers relay, and gold in the shot put relay and discus relay for a total of 4 medals. The throwers and sprinters placed the girls in a third place finish.

Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Twentynine Palms High School baseball, softball, and tennis teams will host the Desert Mirage Rams at home. Match time for tennis is at 3:15; first pitch for baseball and softball is 3:30. Also tomorrow, the Wildcat track and golf teams will play the Big Bear Bears. Golf is at home with tee off at 2:45. Because Twentynine Palms High School’s new track is not ready for a track meet, the meet will be held at the Yucca Valley High School track at 3 p.m. The Twentynine Palms High School swim team travels away to Desert Mirage; the meet starts at 3:15.

The Yucca Valley High School baseball team will travel away to Desert Hot Springs tomorrow to play the Golden Eagles. First pitch is at 3:30.
