The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan girls’ basketball team opened their season with a 68-50 loss to the Bears of Riverside Poly last night in a first round game at the West Valley Tip Off Classic. Coach Jess Geeson said Yucca Valley was led by senior Hannah Hughes who scored 14 points, and junior Ashley Priest who netted 11 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. The girls head to Hemet again today for a second round game against Carter High of Rialto.
The Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer team started their preseason action as they traveled to Yermo to play against Silver Valley High School. The Lady Trojans proved too strong and came away with the 9-0 victory. Coach Scott Phillips said standouts were:
Senior Teresa Nava, three goals; senior Amy Priest, one goal, one assist; junior Jennifer Luersen, one goal, one assist; junior Karson Scaccinoce, one goal; sophomore Esther Obeso, one goal, one assist; sophomore Olivia Paul, one goal; freshman Alexia Missett, one goal, two assists; freshman Hayli Mayhood, one assist; sophomore Nikole Cody, recorded the shutout as goalie.
Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Twentynine Palms boys’ soccer team will host West Shores High School at home. The game starts at 5 p.m. Also tomorrow, the Wildcat boys’ basketball team will host the Cathedral City Lions at home. Tip-off begins at 6:30 p.m.
