HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats’ second swim meet of the season took place Monday at Luckie Park against the Banning High School Broncos. The Wildcat boys’ team swept first place in every event, and won the meet 107-52. First place winners were: 200 medley relay, Kevin Johnson, Kyle Bobadilla, Tyler Ambrams, and Tanner Rush; 200 individual medley, Ambrams; 50- and 100-meter freestyle, Brian Soster; 100-meter butterfly, Ambrams; 500-meter freestyle, Valenzuela; 100-meter backstroke, Johnson; 200-meter freestyle relay, Ambrams, Valensuela, Bobadilla and Soster; and 400 freestyle, Johnson, Matthew Councell, Marcus Freitas, and Valenzuela.

The LadyCats also swept every event and won the meet 136-26. Winners of the lead-off 200 medley race were Lexi Wade, Lindsey Scamman, Gabby Crank, and Kyra Minatrea. First in the 200-meter freestyle was Cortni Rahn; Minatrea took first in the 200 individual medley and 500-meter freestyle. Scamman was first in the 100 butterfly, and Crank took first in the 100 freestyle. Wade won first in the 100 backstroke. In the relay races, the team of Crank, Minatrea, Rahn, and Scamman took first in the 200-freestyle; the 400-meter relay was won by Lea Spear, Nicole Elmer, Wade, and Rahn.

200 medley relay: Kevin Johnson, Kyle Bobadilla, Tyler Ambrams, and Tanner Rush
200 free: first place, Nick Valenzuela; second, Tanner Rush
200 individual medley: 1st, Tyler Ambrams, Kevin Johnson, 2nd.
50 freestyle: Brian Soster won, Marcus Freitas, third; and Cody Landry fourth place.
100 freestyle: Soster and Landry continued their pace with a win and third place.
100 butterfly: Tyler Ambrams and Kyle Bobadilla went 1 and 2.
500 free: Nick Valenzuela took first while Matthew Councell gained the third place finish.
100 backstroke: Kevin Johnson, first place; Marcus Freitas, second.
200 free relay: Ambrams, Valenzuela, Bobadilla, and Soster took first with third place going to the team of Landry, Rush, Glen Reaves, and Councell.
400 free relay: Johnson, Councell, Freitas, and Valenzuela taking first in the 400 Free relay.

Girls
200 medley relay: Lexi Wade, Lindsey Scamman, Gabby Crank, Kyra Minatrea, first; and Devanee Johnson, Maggie Obrien, Ashley Waring, Bella Crank, second.
200 free: Cortni Rahn, Nicole Elmer, and Catalina Aguilar went 1, 2, 3.
200 individual medley: Kyra Minatrea, Lea Speer, and Ashley Waring went first, second, and third.
100 butterfly: Lindsey Scamman, Cortni Rahn, Marissa Washington, first, second and third.
100 freestyle: Gabby Crank, Ashley Waring, Bella Crank, first, second, third.
500 freestyle: Kyra Minatrea, Lea Speer, Devanee Johnson, first, second, third.
100 backstroke: Lexi Wade, Bella Crank, Melisa Vasquez, first, second, third.
200 freestyle relay: Gabby Crank, Kyra Minatrea, Cortni Rahn, and Lindsey Scamman took first; Lea Speer, Nicole Elmer, Bella Crank, and Ashley Warning took second; and Catalina Aguilar, Maggie Obrien, Marissa Washington, and Devanee Johnson placed third.
400 relay: Speer, Elmer, Wade, Rahn in first and Johnson, Aguilar, Vasquez, and Washington in second place.

The Twentynine Palms Wildcats track and field lost in a 68-59 thriller that came down to the final race of the meet against the reigning De Anza League Champions the Shadow Hills Knights. The team was led by senior Beayahn Carrllo who turned in two first place performances in the 100-meter and the 200 meter.  He also earned second place in the long jump. All three performances were personal records.

Other first place performances included: Garrett Schrepfer in the 800 meter, KJ Morton in the 400 meter, and Spencer Walton doubled in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter. Adam Mapuatuli (mah-poo-a-too-lee) shocked the Knights with two personal records to take second in both the shot put and discus and earn 4 points for the team.

The Lady Wildcats fell 84-43, but weren’t without memorable performances. Senior captain Kathy Lazaro turned in three first-place performances, winning the 100 meter, the 300 meter hurdles, and running an amazing comeback anchor leg in the 4×100 meter race to thrill the stadium. Liana Ruiz doubled winning the discus and shot put and Sherolyn Alconoaba (al-ko-na-buh) won first in the high jump and scored second in the triple jump.

The Wildcats will travel to Beaumont High School on Saturday to compete in the Cougar Classic Invitational.

Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley High School Trojan baseball team will host the Xavier Prep Saints of Palm Desert. First pitch is at 3:15.

Also tomorrow, the Joshua Springs Lightning baseball team will travel to Salton City to play West Shores High School, starting at 3:15.
