HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

Twentynine Palms Wildcats track and field team hosted a nail biter against the Rancho Mirage Rattlers. Coach Rhonda Lockett-Morton said the Lady Wildcats were led by senior Captain Kathy Lazaro, who led the way with three first-place finishes including a dominating anchor leg for the 4x100m relay. She also earned first in the 100m and 300m hurdles. Other standout performances included the 1-2 punch of Selemara Mapuatuli who dominated in the shot put and discus combining for 18 points. The courageous 11 girls tried hard, but barely lost, 50-59.

The boys’ track team was victorious by a score of 66-59, fueled by many outstanding first place performances:  Spencer Walton (1600m, 3200m), Beayahn Carrllo (100m), senior Garrett Schrepfer (800m) and KJ Morton (200m). A pair of clutch high jump performances by underclassmen, D’Shaun Barrett and Brandon Benton earned a pivotal 4 points for the Wildcats.

In the opening swim meet of the season, Coach William Johnson said the Twentynine Palms High School Lady Wildcats started out the season Tuesday with a 122 to 48 win over the Arabs of Coachella Valley High School, while the men fell, 76 to 80, in a neck-and-neck battle. In the girls’ 200 medley relay, Lexi Wade, Lindsey Scamman, Gabby Crank, and Kyra Minatrea took first and achieved the first CIF consideration time of the season. Ashley Waring, Maggie O’Brien, Marissa Washington, and Bella Crank took third place. In the 200 individual medley, Lindsey Scamman and Cortni Rahn finished 1 and 2. In the 200 free relay, Gabby Crank, Kyra Minatrea, Cortni Rahn, and Lindsey Scamman finished first, with third place going to Ashley Waring, Nichole Elmer, Bella Crank, and Lea Speer. In the 200 freestyle, Lexi Wade and Lea Speer took first and second for the women. The ladies went 1, 2, and 3 in the 100 backstroke with Lexi Wade leading the way and obtaining a CIF consideration time followed by Nichole Elmer, and Bella Crank.

For the boy’s swim team, in the 200 individual medley Kyle Bobadilla took the top spot for the men. In the 200 freestyle, Nicholas Valenzuela took first. Kevin Johnson, Tyler Ambrams, Kyle Bobadilla, and Brian Soster took second in the 200 medley relay. Taking second place in the 200 free relay were Matthew Councell, Tanner Rush, Glen Reaves, and Cody Landry.

The Twentynine Palms high school golf team hosted 2 teams for their second preseason match Wednesday at roadrunner dunes golf course. The results were split as Twentynine Palms defeated Palm Valley high school 265 to 316. The Wildcats lost their match against Apple Valley High School 265 to 222. Low scores for the Wildcats were Justin Delarosa 43, Haden Shupp and Andrew Dyer both shooting 53. The Wynn brings the Wildcats preseason record to 2 and 1.

Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Joshua Springs Lightning baseball team will travel away to play San Jacinto Valley Academy. Game time is 3:15 p.m.
