The Yucca Valley High School baseball team hosted Coachella Valley for opening day Saturday with a doubleheader. In the first game, the Trojans scored early with four runs in the first inning anchored by junior Travis Shartel, who hit a 3-RBI double. In the fourth inning, Junior Tim Parker blasted a grand slam home run to give the Trojans a victory behind solid pitching by senior Colden McGarvie.  Final score 13-2.

Coach Brian Schoenborn said in game two, the Trojan bats cooled down until an RBI triple by senior Colden McGarvie. Two singles by freshman Clay Smith helped keep the Trojans in it. Ultimately six runs in the sixth inning by the visiting Arabs was too much to overcome. Final score 7-3.

The junior varsity Trojans won both games of their doubleheader.

Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Twentynine Palms High School baseball team will play their season opener against Palm Valley High School at home. First pitch is at 3:15. The Wildcat golf team will participate in the Tiger Match Play Tuesday and Thursday.

Also tomorrow, the Joshua Springs baseball and softball teams will open their seasons with a home game against Nuevo Bridge. First pitch for both games is at 3:15 p.m.
