HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

Wednesday in Big Bear the Twentynine Palms Girls’ Varsity Basketball team won their game against Big Bear 82 to 33. Coach Tim Stanford said Leading scorers were Lindsey Scamman with 23 points, Courtney Stanford with 15 points, and Destiny Dedmon with 13 points.

The Twentynine Palms boys’ soccer teams hosted the Big Bear Bears in the opening game of the second round of league play at Tom Nicols Memorial Stadium Wednesday night and won 2-0.  After a 0-0 first half, the Wildcats scored twice in the second half. Coach Nathan Niles said sophomores Nick Stowers and Rhyen Smith each assisted one another on both goals. Keeper KJ Magwood Morton had eight saves.

The junior varsity team dominated the field in a tight 0-0 tie. Great midfield defensive commitment by Carlos Herrera, Miguel Sosa, Don Ketcham, Lyle Williams and Tyler Cantrell led to Big Bear only shooting on goal six times. Freshman keeper Kyle Lawrence recorded the first shutout of his young career.

In high school sports today, the Yucca Valley High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will play Desert Mirage High School. The boys will travel away; the girls play at home. Both games start at 6 p.m.

Also today, the Twentynine Palms High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams play Desert Hot Springs High School. The boys travel away; the girls are at home. Tip-off for both games is at 6 p.m.
