The Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer team traveled to Romoland to compete in the Heritage Winter Classic over the weekend. Coach Scot Phillips said after suffering a hard 4-0 defeat in the opening round to Patriot High School from Riverside, the Lady Trojans bounced back to gain a win over J.W. North High School and a tie against the host Heritage High School. Standouts from the tournament included junior Alexia Missett, continuing her scoring ways with five goals and one assist; sophomore Jackie Bolha with a goal; freshmen Kelsey Gunkel and Stefani Huff with a goal; sophomores Linnea Hilderbrand and Maria Diaz with an assist; and freshman Faith Palmer with two assists.
In high school sports today, the Joshua Springs boys’ basketball team will play Mesa Grande Academy at 6:30 p.m. at home.
The Yucca Valley High School girls’ basketball team will host Sultana at home. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
In high school sports tomorrow, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ and boys’ varsity soccer teams will play Loma Linda Academy at home. Girls starts at 3:15 p.m. and boys start at 5 p.m.
Also tomorrow, the Yucca Valley girls’ soccer team will travel to play West Shores. The game will start at 3:15 p.m.
