The Yucca Valley High School Girls’ Soccer team kicked off the 2014-15 season as they traveled to take on Silver Valley High School Wednesday. The Lady Trojans dominated the game and finished with a score of 14-0. Coach Scott Phillips said senior captains Karson Scaccianoce and Jennifer Luerson provided strong games with two goals apiece, but the night belonged to sophomore Alexia Missett, who shattered the single-game scoring record with seven goals. She also added two assists. Other standouts were senior Karson Scaccinoce, two goals, four assists; senior Jennifer Luersen, two goals, two assists; freshman Jacqueline Bolha, one goal, two assists;
sophomore Hayli Mayhood, one goal; freshman Maria Diaz, one goal; junior Nikole Cody recorded the shutout as goalie.
The Twentynine Palms High School soccer teams split their wins and losses Wednesday with Xavier Prep. Coach Nathan Niles said the varsity lost 1-2, with multiple shots on goal in the last 10 minutes. Austun Stowers scored on a direct free kick from 30 yards out in the first half. It was a strong defensive effort. The JV team had their first win ever with a 2-1 victory over Xavier Prep. Both goals came in last 10 minutes, off the foot of Justin Silvas, on assists from Nicholas Stowers. Great defensive effort anchored by KJ Magwood in the goal.
Coming up in high school sports tonight, the Joshua Springs High School boys’ basketball team will play Temecula Prep in the So Cal Classic. Tip off is at 7:30.
In high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer team will be participating in the final day of the Beaumont Winter Classic tournament. The Twentynine Palms High School girls’ soccer team will be in the second day of a three-day Desert Mirage Tournament. The Yucca Valley High School Trojan wrestling team will match Lakeside in an invitational meet.
