HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats boys’ basketball team started their season on the road against Cathedral City High School yesterday. They played a hard-fought game, but ended on the short side of the scoreboard. The ’Cats lost 87-73. Coach Michael Schneider said Kyle Hope knocked down four three-pointers and finished with 20 points. Andrew Wilson had 10 points and nine rebounds. D’Shaun Barrett, Jimmy Shragge and Demetrius Holmes each added nine points.

The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team got their first win of the season last night beating the host West Valley Mustangs 66-27 in a second round game of the West Valley Tournament in Hemet. Coach Jess Geeson said junior Annika Dendekker led all scorers with 18 points, while senior Ashley Priest posted 15 points, and sophomore Taylor Spitz added 13 points. Senior Celeste Reyes chipped in six points for Yucca Valley, who lost their first round game 43-46 to Yucaipa on Monday night. Priest had a team high 23 points against the Thunderbirds.
