For the last home Yucca Valley High School volleyball match of the season, it was a full house for the Lady Trojans. The parents of all three teams, freshman, junior varsity, and varsity, were on hand to receive a flower from their daughter to thank them for all of their support for the 2014 season.
The junior varsity team took the match 2-0. Coach Larson is really pleased with the effort from her team. Leading the team: Savannah Sanchez, with 10 for 10 serving; Alaina Trofler, 9 for 10 serving, with three aces; Kyley Beatty had 10 kills; and Emily Vigrass had five blocks.
The varsity volleyball team stayed close in the first two sets, but fell 0-3. Coach Matt Jennings said leading the team were Becky Messaros, who was 11 for 11 serving with 11 assists; Jade Adair had seven assists; Haley Rayburn with seven kills and two blocks; Ashley Priest was 13 for 13 serving with three aces, nine kills, and four blocks.
The Twentynine Palms High School LadyCats volleyball team lost to the Shadow Hills Knights in three sets. The Ladycats were led by sophomore Tatiyanna Mackall with six kills and three blocks. Senior Hanna Beard had four kills, followed by junior Latasia Benevente with three kills, one block and one ace serve. Captain Koko Cabrera had one kill, two tips, and eight assists. Freshman Hope Culver had two ace serves and played some very aggressive defense.
The Yucca Valley High School girls’ varsity tennis team beat Desert Mirage 16-2. In singles, Carrie Scofield was 3-0; Rachel Green, 3-0; and Miranda Green was one for three. In doubles, Coach Cindy Miller reported Aimee Frank and Cionne Lonergan were 3-0; Dawn Rich and Moriah Goddard, 3-0; Aislinn Gueltzow, 2-0; and Sadie Mecham and Myriya Masse Ramirez 6-0. The team record is 10-0 with two matches to go.
The Twentynine Palms High School girls’ tennis team defeated the Shadow Hills Knights by a score of 10-8. Leading the Ladycats was number one singles player, Jasmine Smith, who won all three sets. Coach Joe Ingram said also sweeping all three sets was number one doubles team of Makayla Ogdahl and Alex Morrissey. The Ladycats are now seven and three in the De Anza league.
Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Twentynine Palms High School and Yucca Valley High School cross-country teams will both participate in the Mount San Antonio College Invitational meet.
