HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Twentynine Palms High School boys’ basketball team beat the Rams of Desert Mirage high school last night, cruising to a 52-to-40 point win. Coach Michael Schneider said the night was highlighted by nice defensive play from everyone on the team. D’Shaun Barrett led all scorers with 19 points. Jimmy Shragge added nine points. This brings the Wildcats overall record to 11 wins and 6 losses. Their De Anza League record is nine and two. The ’Cats’ next game will be against rivals Yucca Valley Thursday night starting at 7:30 in Yucca Valley

In Tuesday’s Victory League match, the visiting Joshua Springs Lightning basketball team scored an important 60-47 win over the Bloomington Christian Ravens. Head Coach Israel Hagerman said Tyler Pascale helped lead the team to victory, scoring a team high 16 points on the night. Right behind him were Jordan Lovejoy and Clint Humphreville, with 12 each. Rounding out the scoring was Luke Humphreville (10), Caleb Kint and Joey Hagerman (4) and Eddie Costello (2). The Lightning will host Mesa Grande Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. in the Joshua Springs Thunderdome.

The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team cruised to a 50-16 win at Rancho Mirage last night in a De Anza league contest. Coach Jess Geeson said the Yucca girls led at halftime 38-9. Senior Ashley Priest led the way with 14 points, along with 13 rebounds. Sophomore Taylor Spitz chipped in eight points, and freshman Savannah Beasley had seven points and four steals. Senior Yvonne Tran had two 3-point baskets and seven points. The Lady Trojans are now 19-6 overall, 9-2 in league and host Twentynine Palms Thursday at 6 p.m. in Trojan Gym.

Both Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat boys’ soccer teams finished their home season last night against the defending league champion Desert Mirage Rams. Coach Nathan Niles said the junior varsity team lost 7-0. Freshman keeper Chris White had his best game of the season with over 10 saves.

The varsity squad also lost 7-0 to the Rams, who clinched their 10th consecutive league title with the victory over the Wildcats. Freshmen Jason Walters and Samuel Smith had great defensive play and made many key stops, while freshman keeper KJ Morton again recorded 20 saves.

Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms High Schools boys’ and girls’ soccer teams will compete against each other in Yucca Valley. The girls start at 3:15, the boys at 5.
