Tuesday night, the Twentynine Palms girls’ varsity basketball team stayed undefeated in league by defeating the Yucca Valley Trojans at home, 49-36. Coach Tim Stanford said the ladies’ team defense was outstanding in the first half, holding the Trojans to two points in the first quarter and six in the second quarter for a total of eight Trojan halftime points. Leading scorers for the ’Cats were Koko Cabrera with 22 points and Lindsey Scamman with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Stanford said his Wildcat of the Week for girls’ basketball is Katie Moore, saying, “Katie is the consummate team player; she always puts team first, works hard in practice, and helps organize and execute fundraising events. Katie Moore has improved her basketball skills over the years and she has become a fine basketball player, but she is an even better person.”
In high school sports today, the Yucca Valley High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will travel away to play the Big Bear Bears. The girls start at 5; the boys at 6:30.
The Joshua Springs Christian School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will host Redlands Adventist Academy at home. Tip off for the girls is at 5; the boys at 6:30.
