The Twentynine Palms girls’ varsity basketball team won its game over Ayala on Saturday (November 24) at home, 82 to 36. Coach Tim Stanford said the entire team was outstanding on defense.
The ’Cats were led in scoring by freshman Kate Bobadilla with 19 points, six assists, and six steals. Mary Carbiener had 15 points, four rebounds, and four steals. Gabby Mackall had another strong game with 12 points, and six rebounds. Taylor Scamman added 11 points, seven rebounds, and five steals.
The ’Cats’ record stands at 3 wins, 0 losses.
The Yucca Valley varsity boys’ and varsity girls’ wrestling teams traveled to Arroyo High School. Coach Larry Giron said there were multiple placers for both boys and girls. The girls’ team won their first ever duals against Bonita High School, 30-24, and against South Hills, 24-12.
Placing for the girls were Desteny Carranza in third place, Carah Takahashi first place, Charisma Shannon second place, and Kassandra Rivera, first place.
Fastest pin of the day was Charisma Shannon in 14 seconds.
Placing for the boys were Seth Holmes third place, and Onkar Sandhu, first place.
Next up for the Trojans, the wrestling team travels to Banning for the second league match of the season on Friday November 30.
In high school sports today, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ basketball team will participate in the West Valley tournament, through Friday.
