The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team avenged a season opening loss with a 69-53 win over the San Jacinto Tigers last night in Trojan Gym. The Yucca girls lost to the Tigers 61-42 last week in a first-round game at the West Valley Tournament, but were able to turn the tables in front of their home crowd.
Coach Jess Geeson said senior Savannah Beasley was a force all night and led the squad with 21 points. Junior Angie Reutgen continued her solid play, adding 15 points, while sophomore Coy Smith came off the bench and provided a spark, contributing 11 points. Seniors Zena Yakimow and Kiley Pitts scored eight and seven points respectfully, as the girls pushed their record to 2-3 on the season. Up next is a Monday game in the Redlands East Valley tournament versus Miller High School of Fontana.
The Twentynine Palms Wildcat boys’ soccer team hosted the visiting Big Bear Bears last night at Tom Nicoll Memorial Stadium in Twentynine Palms. The Wildcats dominated throughout in front of a large home crowd for a 6-1 win. The team limited Big Bear to only six shots.
Coming up in high school sports today, the Yucca Valley boys’ and girls’ soccer teams will travel away to Lake Arrowhead where they will play Rim of the World High School. Both games start at 3 p.m.
