HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team had a rough season opener last night, losing to San Jacinto 61-42, in a first-round game at the West Valley Mustang tournament. Coach Jess Geeson said the Yucca Valley squad started the game sluggishly and fell behind 16-6 in the first quarter while trying to find consistency on both offense and defense against a Tiger team who entered the game with a 3-1 record.

Freshman Sara Mills led the team with 11 points while junior Angie Reutgen added eight points. Senior Kloee Scaccianoce chipped in six points. The Yucca Valley girls play Adelanto today at 3 p.m. as the tournament continues.

The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat boys soccer team opened at home last night with a 7-0 win against Desert Christian Academy. Coach Nathan Niles said the Wildcats played a great game and dominated throughout.

Goals came from seniors Nick Stowers, Tim Niles and Angel Zaragoza. Junior Miguel Sosa and sophomore Adan Herrera rounded out the scoring. Great passing and teamwork led to assists coming from Donald Albers, Dante Smith-Evans, Roy Rathbun and Zaragoza. Senior goalkeepers Adam Pereira and KJ Magwood combined for a shutout.

Coming up in high school sports today, the Yucca Valley High School boys basketball team will travel away to Palm Springs to play Desert Chapel High School. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.

The Twentynine Palms High School boys’ basketball team will participate in the Beaumont Tip-Off Classic tournament starting today through Saturday.

The Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms High School girls’ basketball teams will be participating in the West Valley High School Mustang Classic Tournament starting today through Friday.

Also today, the Yucca Valley boys’ and girls’ soccer teams will host Excelsior Charter School from Victorville at home, starting at 3 p.m. for the girls and 5 p.m. for the boys.
