HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycats volleyball team lost in four hard-fought sets against the San Jacinto Tigers. Coach Missy Bond said the Ladycats are now 1-5 overall and will begin league play in two weeks.

Leading the Ladycats was senior Lindsey Scamman with eight kills, five blocks, and one assist. Senior Jasmine Rodriguez had five kills, and senior Cheryl Jensen had five kills, one ace, and one assist. Junior Lea Speer had four kills and two assists. Senior Hope Culver had three kills. Juniors Breanna Collins and Nicole Elmer had two kills each and Elmer had two blocks as well.

The Yucca Valley High School girls’ varsity tennis team lost a close match Wednesday against Indio 8-10. It came down to the last match of the day and it went into a tie breaker which they lost. Coach Cindy Miller said, “Everyone is improving every day. We are using these preseason matches to get ready for league.”

In singles, Katie Brattain was 6-1, 6-1, 6-0; Carly Belmontes, 6-4; and Elizabeth Anderson, 6-3. In doubles action, Savannah Beasley and Kloee Scaccianoce 6-1, 6-0; April Bratcher and Mckenzi Monical 6-4.

The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycats varsity tennis team hosted the Tigers of San Jacinto on Thursday. The Wildcats lost a tough one, 8 to 10.
In singles, the Ladycats were led by Alicia Gilchrist, who won two of her sets, while Tamesha Jefferson won one of her sets. In doubles action, the teams of Danny Morrissey/Alexis Soster and Saniyah Solwazi/Rosalind Carrillo won two of their sets, while the team of Emma Romano/Bella Crank won one of their sets.

In high school sports today, the Yucca Valley High School Trojan football team will travel away to Indio to play the Rajahs. The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat football team will travel to Palm Springs to play Xavier Prep. Kick-off for both games is at 7 p.m.
Also today, the Ladycats tennis and volleyball teams will travel to Cathedral City. Tennis starts at 3:15, volleyball at 4:30.

And in high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley High School boys’ cross-country team will travel to Beaumont for a meet.
And the Twentynine Palms Ladycats volleyball team will participate in the Salton Sea Invitational.
