The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team used a balanced attack to defeat the Grand Terrace High School Titans, 51-41, in a second-round Big Daddy Classic tournament game at Notre Dame High School in Riverside. Coach Jess Geeson said sophomore Angie Reutgen led the way, scoring 14 points, while junior Savannah Beasley chipped in 11 points. Juniors Kloee Scaccionoce and Zena Yakimow each added eight points. With the win, the Yucca Valley girls upped their record to 4-2 on the season.
The Twentynine Palms High School Lady Wildcats soccer team traveled to take on Palm Springs High School Tuesday evening, resulting in a 2-1 loss for junior varsity and a 6-2 loss for the varsity team. Coach Richard Sanchez said senior forward Darrien Rieg and junior midfielder Hannah Valls both scored unassisted goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Soster contributed seven saves.
Freshman forward Anahi Romo scored an unassisted first half goal for junior varsity, while the defense, led by junior Symphony Richards and freshman Alexia Denogean, worked hard to keep the match close. Junior goalkeeper Alex Anaya had seventeen saves in the contest.
In high school sports, today, the Yucca Valley High School boys’ basketball team will host Desert Christian Academy from Bermuda Dunes at home. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
The Yucca Valley girls’ basketball team will participate in the third day of the Notre Dame Big Daddy Classic tournament in Riverside, starting at 4:30 p.m.
The Joshua Springs boys’ basketball team will travel away to Thermal to play Desert Mirage High School, starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Joshua Springs girls’ basketball team will host Desert Hot Springs High School at home; tip-off is at 5 p.m.
And finally, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ soccer team will host West Shores High School at home, starting at 4 p.m.
