The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycat volleyball team traveled to Rancho Mirage Wednesday to take on the undefeated Rattlers and beat them in five sets. Coach Missy Bond said the Ladycats’ win now puts a tie in the DeAnza league between Yucca Valley and Rancho Mirage High School, both with one loss apiece. Twentynine Palms High School is now 3-4 in league.
The Ladycats were led by senior Tatiyanna Mackall with 12 kills, two blocks and three assists. Junior Lindsey Scamman had nine kills and seven blocks. Senior Selemara Matuapuli had eight kills. Junior Cheryl Jensen had five kills and one ace serve. Sophomore Gabby Mackall had one kill and 32 assists. Junior Hope Culver played excellent back court.
The Yucca Valley High School girls’ varsity tennis team beat Desert Hot Springs Wednesday 17-1. Coach Cindy Miller says the team is 7-1.
In singles, Carrie Scofield was 6-0, 6-1, 6-0; (yesterday was her birthday); Katie Brattain was 6-0, 6-0, 6-0; Ashley Heveron was 1-6, 6-2,6-2. In doubles, Dawn Rich and April Bratcher won 6-0,6-0,6-0; Kloee Saccalanoce and Savannah Beasley won 6-1, 6-2, 6-0; McKenzi Monical and Summer Nelson were 6-1, 7-6 (9-7); Debra Simpson and Alisha Tavares 6-4. In McKenzi Monical and Summer Beasley’s second match, they were up 5-2 and the other team keep battling back, but in the end Monical and Beasley took control in the tie breaker and won 9-7.
Coming up in high school sports today, the Joshua Springs Christian School volleyball team will travel to Palm Springs to play Desert Chapel High School. The match starts at 5:30 p.m.
Also today, the Yucca Valley High School cross-country team will participate in its second DeAnza League meet at Coachella Valley High School in Thermal.
