HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS SCORES AND HIGHLIGHTS

Twentynine Palms High School varsity boys basketball played against cross-basin rival Yucca Valley High School at home. Twentynine Palms won, 101-51. The Wildcats are still undefeated in the De Anza League at 7-0, 19-7 overall. Coach Antoine Kilgore said the Wildcats came out and played like a team and executed.

The Wildcats take on Coachella Friday, February 2, at the Richard Casey Gymnasium with girls’ JV at 3 p.m., boys’ JV at 4:30 p.m., girls’ varsity at 6 p.m. and boys’ varsity at 7:30 p.m.

The Twentynine Palms girls’ basketball team was victorious over Yucca Valley by the score of 67-58, and remains undefeated in the DeAnza league.
Coach Tim Stanford said the Lady Wildcats played strong defense in the first half holding the Trojans to only two field goals. The Trojans fought back in the third quarter to cut the 21-point lead at the half to seven going into the fourth quarter. The furious fourth quarter ended with a nine point Wildcat win. Lindsey Scamman had 31 points, 31 rebounds, seven assists, and nine blocks. Hope Culver scored all 11 of her points in the fourth quarter; she was 5-for-6 from the line in the quarter as well. Culver also added six rebounds and four steals. This was a great team win by the home team with eight girls scoring baskets.
 
The Twentynine Palms High School boys basketball invites all youth basketball players, Park and Rec, and MCAGCC youth basketball players to attend this Friday’s “Break the Record Night.” All youth basketball players must wear their 2018 team jersey to get in free and must be accompanied by a paying adult or their coach.
 
Yucca Valley High School boys’ soccer played at Twentynine Palms; varsity lost 3 to 2.

Coach Jorge Rodriguez said first goal was scored by Forward Fabian Odonell and the second goal was scored by Junior forward Aldo Villalba, The Trojan defense played tough, but he gives credit to the Twentynine Palms team; they scored when they had the chance. Player of the match was Sophomore Angel Ramirez. Thanks for all support from the fans that attended the game.
Yucca Valley High School junior varsity soccer lost to Twentynine Palms, 1 to 0.
Coach Adan Mendoza said it was a very close game and the team played inspired, but they could not score today. Player of the match was Defender Luke Jones. 

Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer played cross-town rival Twentynine Palms last night and won 5 to 1, to keep possession of the Elks trophy for another year.
Yucca Valley High School junior varsity girls’ soccer won against Twentynine Palms 2-0.
Goals were scored by Markina Evdokimoff and Nicole Godoy
Coach Jolene Pessa said honorable mention to starting goal keeper Anakah Walters, who played midfield today and proved to be a great asset not only as goalkeeper, but also exhibited her ambition to be a dominating presence on our offensive line.
