The Twentynine Palms Wildcats boys’ basketball team traveled to Desert Mirage High School last night for the last De Anza League game of the season. The Wildcats came away with a 86-51 win. Coach Jeremy Johnson said D’Shaun Barrett lead the cats with 25 points, Kyle Hope 20 points, and Jimmy Shragge had 17 points. The 20-5 team will play in the Division 4A CIF Southern Section Playoffs Wednesday, February 17. The opponent and location that will be released Sunday afternoon.
The Yucca Valley Lady Trojan basketball team completed their regular season schedule with a convincing 56-16 Senior Night victory over Rancho Mirage last night in Trojan Gym. Coach Jess Geeson said Seniors Annika Dendekker, Sarah Webb, Keiona Dillon and September Shaw-Fryer started the game and were honored at half time. Junior Taylor Spitz led the scoring with 20 points while Shaw-Fryer netted 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Sophomore Savannah Beasley added 9 points and five steals. With a 18-8 overall record and a 9-3 De Anza League mark the team now waits for their CIF playoff opponent to be announced this Sunday with a probable home game next Thursday.
Yucca Valley High School boys’ soccer team lost 6 to zero to Rancho Mirage HS. Coach Jorge Rodruguez said team leaders were Senior Garrett Bellucci with five steals and Junior Goalkeeper Steven Castro with nien saves.
The Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer team hosted Rancho Mirage High School on Senior Night for the final regular season game. Coach Scott Phillips said The game was deadlocked in a 0-0 tie until junior Alexia Missett scored off an amazing assist from sophomore Jackie Bolha giving the Lady Trojans the 1-0 victory. Senior Nikole Cody added another shutout to her record. Next up for the Lady Trojans will be the CIF playoffs. Information concerning the opponent and location will be posted on Monday.
In high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley High School girls’ wrestling team will participate in the CIF Masters meet.
